What The Color Hex?
Web colors are colors used in displaying web pages, and the methods for describing and specifying those colors. Colors may be specified as an RGB triplet or in hexadecimal format (a hex triplet) or according to their common English names in some cases.
A hex triplet is a six-digit, three-byte hexadecimal number used in HTML, CSS, SVG, and other computing applications to represent colors. The bytes represent the red, green and blue components of the color. One byte represents a number in the range 00 to FF, or 0 to 255 in decimal notation.

Being a typical guy, I have no clue what the colors Lavender and Mauve look like. You can show me Indigo and I won't know if it's more like Violet or Purple.
Each number denotes the strength of that particular color – FF0000 is only red (no green, no blue), 00FF00 only green (no red, no blue). If all colors are present in equal strength FFFFFF, you get white, if no color is present 000000, you get full black.
If you want to darken a color, you need to move the color towards black 000000. That means 880000 is darker than BB0000 that is darker than FF0000. Similarly, if you want to lighten a color, move towards white FFFFFF. So, FF8888 is lighter than FF4444 that is lighter than FF0000.
